Feasibility
Studies
GCT has successfully completed projects for proposed
CHP / District Heating Schemes using landfill gas at the main energy source.
Investigations included sustainability and financial viability of projects.
GCT work for Yorkshire Electricity to monitor applicants
for CHP grants and to undertake scheme quality appraisals for suitability.
Sales
and Marketing
Service is offered in Sales and Marketing of CHP
schemes to industrial and commercial organisations. Consultants can either
control or supplement existing sales staff. This is specifically aimed
at companies who require the services of a skilled technical sales person
for a project or where work is seasonal.
Community
Heating
Advice is given on the development of Community
Heating Schemes (CHS), with or without Combined Heat and Power (CHP) and
on the upgrading and modernisation of existing CHS. The design and installation
of modern distribution and transmission systems for hot and chilled water,
incorporating the latest techniques for control and moisture detection
against operational problems are also undertaken.
Energy
Efficiency
GCT Consultants has extensive experience of energy
efficiency in social housing and educational establishments and was instrumental
in producing a Case Study "Energy Savings in Schools" published by the
Energy Efficiency Office.
Energy
Rating
GCT is a full member of National Home Energy Rating
(NHER) and is qualified to survey and assess domestic properties. GCT consultants is an accredited member of the Faero competent person scheme for New build SAP and Carbon Dioxide Emission Rate calculations. This service is of particular interest to Architectural practices.
Advice
is offered on costs of energy efficiency improvements. Properties are
also assessed from plans for new build. Advice is offered on the integration
of energy efficiency measures at the design stage.
Housing
Stock
Work is undertaken for numerous local authorities
and housing associations. GCT assist in the development of local energy
strategies as required by the Home Energy Conservation Act (HECA). Housing
stock profiles are undertaken to enable prioritising of energy efficiency
measures to improve the overall energy efficiency of the housing stock
in line with HECA.
Joint
Ventures
Advice is given on the setting up of local joint
venture utility companies with public and private sector involvement.
The most appropriate tariff structures are found to ensure affordable
energy for consumers whilst protecting the economic viability of projects.
Social
Housing Programme
GCT assisted in the preparation of bid packs and
technical specifications for the Social Housing Programme (SHP). It has
been successful in winning contracts for the quality control of the SHP
which is funded by Yorkshire Electricity through the Energy Savings Trust.
Access
to Grant Funding
GCT have long experience in the application for,
and receipt of, grant funding for feasibility studies and implementation
works. Funds are available via various avenues depending upon the application
and size. Practical advice is available on how and where to apply for
funding.
Energy
Linking
GCT see considerable growth potential for extending
existing CHP/CHS; this potential is in the form of energy linking of commercial
and industrial buildings. Neighbouring businesses are encouraged to share
energy and heat generation plant. This enables high quality CHP to be
installed to mitigate the consequences of the Climate Change Levy.

Consultation
Consultation programmes are devised and implemented.
tenant meetings and workshops are organised and chaired to raise energy
awareness and improve the prospects for successful implementation of energy
saving measures.
Ombudsman
George Towler has recently been appointed as Ombudsman
for EnviroEnergy Ltd over the Community Heating Scheme in Nottingham.
This is the first appointment of its kind in the UK.
